Do the lighting reader work on older iPhones?

I run a booth where various people will have the Square app with their own phones. Really small scale, but I’m curious if the lighting reader works on iPhone 6 as an example. Just because the iPhone has a headphone jack, will the lightning reader still work?

i don’t want to buy multiple types yet.

yes, the lightning reader will work on any iPhone that has a lightning port.
