We have two square system (1) Square stand (Apple Ipad) (2) Square Register ( Android).
We are seeing discrepancies in tipping screen. On both we have selected "Smart Tip Amount" option.
(1) In Square Stand (Apple Ipad)
For a transaction $10 or more, the available tipping options are: No Tip, 15%, 20% or 25%.
(2) In Square Register
Tipping options are: No Tip, 10%, 15% or 20%.
Why the tip percentages are different in two different system. It is annoying and employees are making big issues with it. Is this a bug in Square register ? How can we fix in Square register ?
@squareuser28 I checked on my android tablet and my ipad to see the difference. I think they are actually still the same. Have you tried tapping on the tip % to change it under settings --->checkout ----> collect tips? On android devices you just tap on the tip % and you can change it.
Here is some more info on the differences and how I double check things:
On the ipad you have the option for the smart tip amounts which basically only under 10$ transactions it puts the tip as 1$, 2$, or 3$. Over 10$ you get the 1.50, 2, 2.50 or whatever the percentage works out to (which is in the best interest of the employee).
On register see if you have a slider that says smart tip amounts and allow custom amounts. The smart tip amounts is just what I said above. It is just marked as "payments under $10.00 enable tip choices in whole amounts". I would bet that the register, if this option is not available, it is toggled on by default in the custom app.
Now this is where I have to be careful with employees, they sometimes haven't went through an actual transaction to see what is going on. This is what I recommend:
1. On the register, Ring up a 5$ item and process the sale with a credit card and take a picture of the tip amounts it shows on the customer facing screen.
2. On the ipad do the same 5$ transaction (with smart tips enabled) and run the credit card and see what shows up for the customer to choose.
3. Run a 11$ transaction on the register and complete the sale with a credit card and do the same (take a pic of the tip options).
4. Do an 11$ sale on the ipad and you will see $1.65, 2.20, & 2.75. (You can refund these transactions afterwards of course).
So if your employees want the higher amount for the 25% option...just change the percentage to 30 instead of 25 and it will be more. I am wondering if they feel like they might be losing out if someone selects the 25% because it would be less than 3$.
If you have tried all of these, I do apologize.
