A question about emails:
We're doing an event on Wednesday to sell product back of the room. I know that Square collects a purchaser's email address if they haven't used the card before. We need the email of the purchaser to put them into our membership system once we return from our event.
1) Can Square email us a copy of each transaction as it occurs with the purchaser's email, or is there a way to get these from a report? I've looked inside customer information inside Square and there's no email listed.
2) Can Square make capturing an email address mandatory, even if the purchaser has opted out previously?
Mark
Hi @MarkL, welcome and thanks for bringing this up!
The Point of Sale app will ask a buyer to enter in an email address if they haven't used their payment card with a Square seller and they wish to receive an electronic receipt. In this case, the email address is for receipt purposes only, and will not be accessible in your Customer Directory.
We do not currently offer the ability to require an email address at the time of the payment, but I can certainly see how this would be useful for your event. I'll be sharing your post with our Product Liaison team.
For now, my best suggestion is to try out one of our email collection tools, or add your customers to your directory from the Square Point of Sale app at the time of the sale.

Hope this helps for now. Please keep in touch and let us know if you have any further questions.
When I exported my customer list, all their email addresses exported as UNKNOWN. Yet the addresses are in Square for Retail encrypted. How do I access these emails?
Hello @Ruth_DCF.
Welcome to our Seller Community! 🥳
I moved your post here where @Tom explains how our customer emails are recorded. Did you add any of your emails to your Customer Directory?
I use Square for retail. Email addreses are listed with customers however I can’t export them. I need to send a campaign. Are you saying we needed to manually collect email from each customer to send a campaign? THAT’S ABSURD!!!
