Customer Directory and Marketing

I'm looking for clarification on a few details of Square Marketing. 

1. If I add a customer's email address by creating a customer (as opposed to the customer entering his email address for a receipt) or by importing a list, am I always able to view that email address and email that customer? I see a 12 month time limit mentioned, and this is a problem as our business is only open for a few months a year. If a customer visits in April one year but not until June the next, I'm just unable to reach him after the one year anniversary of his visit? Or does the limit only apply to those whose addresses I didn't add? It seems odd that a customer wouldn't be able to opt to receive emails regardless of when their last purchase was.

2. What happens to my data if I cancel my Square Marketing account? As our business is seasonal, I don't need to send emails year-round and therefore don't want to pay for the service year-round. There's no fee for Customer Directory itself, so I'd think I could just subscribe to Marketing in the months I'd actually want to send emails. 10 cents per email for non-subscription sending is 5-6 times the pay-as-you-go price for the company I currently use for my email marketing, but the integration with POS would be convenient.

Well hey there, @VanKalkerFarms. 👋  I'm must say, I was getting used to you answering the questions, so I'm more than happy to help out! 😉  Here we go:

 

1. Yes. You have full access to customers that you manually enter in your directory. As for the 12 month limit, this only applies to customers who are added automatically through Instant Profiles. 

 

2. You won't lose access to any customer profiles, as Customer Directory is a free product. It would just potentially be a lot more expensive to do marketing a la carte, depending on how many customers you wanted to reach.

We wouldn't be sending any emails out in our off-season, so we wouldn't be sending a la carte emails. I would be able to sign up and cancel as needed though?
