I have a new customer who wants to split the deposit payment onto 2 different cards. I always use the manual credit card entry option on my phone. He gave me 2 card numbers; I entered half the amount for the first card and it went through. When I went to enter the other half on the second card number, I could only go so far as punching in the credit card number, it wouldn't advance to the 3 digit code. He says he gave me the correct info for the second card. I used the same information in the notes: same event date, same contract number.
Am I doing this incorrectly, or is it not possible to split a customer deposit using two different credit cards?

If it wouldn't let you advance to the next part, that would mean the card information is invalid or missing a number.
We'd recommend having your customer check the card again before attempting to take payment.
