Solution

You can disable signature for payments under $25, to do so:

1. Tap the three lines icon in the navigation bar
2. Tap Settings > Signature.
3. Toggle Skip Signature Under $25 on or off.

Otherwise, if a cardholder is not present during the time of the transaction, we recommend writing "Phone auth," "Card on file," "Internet order," or anything similar in the signature field to indicate the card was not present for the transaction.

Hope that helps!

Hi there,

For phone orders, I have created an"item" called phone order and in the notes field (in their transaction) I add the name of the customer and the time/date of our phone order. I also add their verbiage of their agreememnt to my store and shipping policies. ("Sure that's fine" "Okay by me" or whatever they say.) I tell them that I will hand-print in all caps the customer's name exactly as it appears on their card followed by the words "phone order" or whatever. I do this because when you go to look at the email version of the receipt, it only shows whatever was written on that line. I let the customer know I'm going to do this ahaead of time. This protects me if they want to  dispute their transaction, saying it was fraudulent.

So the signature line would say:

JOHN Q. PUBLIC phone order

Hope you find this helpful!

In regards to disabling signatures. I have emailed before about this concern, Square needs to impliment this...  It would be nice to have an adjustable set for payments under $... up to $100, if that doesnt fly then or two more sets, one for $75 and another for $100. I say this because the $25 dollar limit just wont work at a Drive Thru, passing out a tablet or phone to sign just don't cut it. Just like the $25 curb is at our discretion to use or not so should the others I mentioned. Hence I have to use a big bank merchant that offers this service and connot use Square as I would love too.

Can you ask your drive through customers to sign a paper receipt? Or do you not even worry about signatures at all, in your business? I only ask this becuse the option is there in the settings menu.

Would this help?

@Stellar732, thanks for your reply.

Signing a paper receipt would be an option if I was using the square there. But then again there would be no electronic record of this signature right? Also if this option was set in the settings menu would that mean that all transactions regardless of cost would need a paper signature?  Since most orders are less than $25 we do not worry about signatures as do many other companys with drive thru's and usually orders do not run over $50, it would just be nice to have those options. We do use square at many of our events and signing a device(phone) is no problem there.

Good luck with a paper receipt. I bought the paper receipt printer but square on iPad doesn't want to recognize it, plus I have to plug the printer into the iPad which requires taking the iPad out of the stand... awkward at best.
