You can easily get a report that shows your sales with all payment method amounts shown, From the Dashboard, click on Reports and on the next screen click Payment Methods, then set the date range you're interested in. At the top of the report is shown your card sales, along with all the submethods (swiped, tapped, etc.). Right under those are your cash sales.
As for not charging sales tax on cash sales, I'm going to have to ask why you want to do that. If you live in a state which collects sales tax (obviously you do) then you have to collect sales tax on all customers and/or items who aren't tax exempt.
We want to disable sales tax on cash because we are a school and we do not charge sales tax on cash transactions.
why wouldn't you? a transaction is a transaction regardless of how it is paid for. sales tax would need to be collected if the items sold qualify for sales tax to be collected no matter the payment method. Sales tax is definitely something you want to be messing around with as the government gets really mad when you don't pay them.
We pay our sales tax upfront, so we don't have to collect it from the students, and we can sell everything at an even dollar amount.
Continuing @VanKalkerFarms post above, why would you charge sales tax on charged sales, but not cash? As he said, a transaction is a transaction, and if one method of payment is taxable, all of them should be.
I have the same issue. We work renaissance faires and are extremely busy. We charge sales tax on top of any charge/debit sale, while including sales tax in any cash sales. As long as we have a sign stating that tax is included in cash sales, we are in compliance with the state. We back out our sales tax come reporting time. This is a common practice for many vendors. I want to record cash sales without having sales tax applied. Can this be done?
Not sure what state you are in but you do not want to mess with sales taxes. You should charge tax on taxable items no matter what the payment method is.

Washington State. I back out the sales tax on cash sales and have a sign stating that sales tax is included in cash sales. This puts us in compliance with the state. I have done bookkeeping and accounting for 30 years in this state and am fully aware of our sales tax laws.
I simply want to know if Square is capable of separating the two types of sales and treating them differently with regard to sales tax.
Hi @FairyBliss - Welcome to The Seller Community, it's always nice to see a new face 😊
Great Question.
At this time there is not away to treat the two as two separate sales tax. That would be considered a feature request. Our engineers would love to hear from you! At your earliest convenience, please visit our Ideate board to post your request so that other interested sellers can contribute their feedback and requests as well. The more traction your request gets the more our engineers will be able to see just how important this request is.
As always, feel free to stop by The Community with question, concerns and even feature requests. We are more than happy to assist. ✨
