Can I re-order options after the fact?

Selling a range of clothing (logo hoodies, t-shirts, etc.), I screwed up when first configuring the options for sizes and somehow skipped XL - so they go S, M, L, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X. I added XL but it went at the bottom of the list.

I left it like that because I figured I could fix it later... proceeded to populate my catalog with six different colours, four different styles, added various styles of shirts as well, and probably close to 300 unique SKUs. And realized partway through I wouldn't be able to simply change it to put XL in its proper sequence.

I found where I could drag things into a different order in Options, which should work for future items added, but that doesn't seem to change the existing listings.

Realistically it's not going to cause a problem in Square, because it will be our own people operating the terminals and buyers will just choose from stock on hand... but the whole thing syncs into my WooCommerce store, and I feel like having the XL out of sequence is going to confuse some people (I picture someone choosing 2X because they know L is too small and it's the next option in line... then discovering when they receive it that they're swimming in a 2X).

I can drag to re-order things in the Woo listings, but some of these cross pages and I can't drag between pages (example: one page ends at 5X, so XL for that style is at the top of the next page). Plus I don't know if those order changes will be overwritten the next time I sync from Square.

I've exported the catalog to an Excel file to ease populating stock numbers, and I'm wondering... if I re-order the rows there (ie. moving the XL row for each style from below 5X to between L and 2X), will that maybe fix my catalog order? Tell it to replace rather than update when importing?

You should be able to rearrange them in Square.  Now are you referring to an Options Set or Variation?

If your sizes are as an Option Set, Go to your Square Dashboard - Items - Options choose the Option List you created and there should be 3 lines (Hamburger Stack) on the left side and you can use your mouse to move the sizes the way you want.

Now if you did Sizes by Variations you can again go to your Dashboard- Items -(Item Name) the scroll down and move your variations around with the Hamburger thing on the left side also.

Not sure how these will effect your integrated online store.  Also moving items around in Excel does nothing since they are all given a Token which Square uses to arrange and ID each item.

Thanks for the quick reply, Keith!

In the Square Dashboard, I went to Options -> Size and dragged the options to the proper order. If I create a new product and go into the options, everything is now in the right order.

However, existing items created with the wrong size sequence, still show the wrong size sequence.

If import is going by the token for its place in the store... couldn't I just swap everything in the row AFTER the token? Or better yet, just swap the tokens for each line? Like if I have this (grossly oversimplified):
<token5>,<large>,<etc>,<etc>,<etc>

<token6>,<2X>,<etc>,<etc>,<etc>

<token7>,<XL>,<etc>,<etc>,<etc>

And I edit it thus:

<token5>,<large>,<etc>,<etc>,<etc>

<token7>,<2X>,<etc>,<etc>,<etc>

<token6>,<XL>,<etc>,<etc>,<etc>

That should bring everything into sequence, no?

(Honestly, I'll probably just go ahead and try it, and if it borks everything I can undo or re-import my pre-edited export, but it's always good to have other input 🙂

I know that Square has been having some issues with Items importing the last week or so.   What you could try is leave it alone and see if your checkouts update to your recent changes.    Give it a day then you can try your idea, but YES keep a copy of the exported version in case you mess it up. I have found out if there is a duplicate or something required thats missing the Import stops and lets you know why.  I variations but just tried it and now I cannot expect in the Options field which is why I am suggesting just wait a day.  Or go to your Checkout device, Settings Items, wait a second or two, do a search for an XL shirt anyone. Then look at that register to see if they are in order as you want.  I have found on my STand if I update inventory on a computer, it does not show right away, but if I go to Items on that stand then search for the item it is there.   It may force an update of your Items or Catalog on that device.

Gotcha. I'm just going by what I see in the Item Library on the computer at this point, as I don't have a terminal with me. I'll let it rest a day and see what happens.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll update here later.
