Can I add a per-day multiplier for all items on an invoice?

I run an equipment rentals business and I'd like to be able to charge both a numbered quantity of items and a per-day charge for those items. Is there a way to create a modifier that will just multiply the price of invoice items including their quantity. For ex. I'd love to be able to do something like (3 x Item A and 6 x Item B) X 2 Days rented. I could just change the qty (double or triple etc.) but that seems sloppy and I don't wan't clients to think I'm charging them for a higher quantity of units than they're ordering.

Hello @whirlybird!

Hmm, Square modifiers will add to the item you've added at checkout, they can't multiply an item. You can create several modifiers though — meaning you could have one modifier for each rental fee: 1 day, 2 days, 3 days and so on.

Can you share a bit more about your business with another example? That will help me and other sellers to provide workarounds!

Sure! I run a photo and video studio so we have an inventory of rental items across a number of categories for use on productions. For example, if a client wants 2 of a particular strobe flash unit for 3 days. I’d love to be able to select a qty of 2 and multiply that unit cost by 3 to account for the days. I don’t necessarily need this to be done via modifiers, just trying to figure out the cleanest way to do it.

Thank you! Hmm, so you certainly could use modifiers but as mentioned they can't multiply the price of an item - they'll only add to it.

Another option would be to create an item called 'Daily rental fee'. Then you can select the fee item for the number of days the item will be rented. This way both items will show on the receipt, e.g. 'Strobe flash unit' and 'Daily rental fee x 3'.

Or you could create item variations that include the rental price. For example create one item called 'strobe flash unit', and then create item variations like 'strobe flash unit + including rental'. You can create as many variations as you like (1 day, 2-5 days, 1 week and so on) and then set a different price for each variation. However, this way the customer will just see one item name, e.g. 'Strobe flash unit including 1 day rental fee'.

I hope this helps!
