BlueTooth Chip Reader on Laptop

I'm reading these forum posts and I understand the BlueTooth chip reader cannot be used with a laptop and the Virtual Terminal is not a fully functional Point-of-Sale Terminal, however, it would seem like such a beneficial feature and a natural fit for Square to be able to hook up ANY of their card readers to a laptop and create a fully functional POS station. Why is this not a capability? I am simply floored that I cannot connect my BlueTooth chip reader to my BlueTooth laptop and ring up a sale.

Welcome to the Seller Community! I can shed some light on this topic. I can confirm that our Contactless and Chip Card reader is not compatible with laptops. 

 

When we originally designed the Square Dashboard it was a place to manage your account and view reports. Over the years we've added additional features and tabs, but the Square Dashboard is not intended to replace the Point of Sale software. Virtual Terminal is great for taking a one time payment, but it doesn't allow you to apply items, discounts, or taxes.

Chromebooks now work with the Square app beautifully. The swiper works and it seems rather flawless.  It makes since for the chip reader to work as bluetooth is already setup for both ends. But as mentioned it does not work.

 

The Chromebook R11 for example is around $200 and is touchscreen for customer signature and "converible" which means we can instantly flip the screen over for client to sign and immediately return to usable laptop functions for better reports etc.

 

Please get software update for chipreader to work with Chromebook.
