Art Gallery

We are an art gallery with independent artists.  Each sale needs to be linked to an artists & product.  Any thoughts on setting this up in Square?  Some galleries create and install bar codes on each item that gets scanned at checkout.  This requires buying additional bar code scanning equipment.  Trying to see if there might be a better way.

Hey there @artsprescott!

I'd say add the artists as categories and assign their products to their respective ones. That way, you can pull a Categories Sales Reports to see the totals.

Can we create additional fields to use for running reports?  I use category for art medium but also want to be able to run a sales report by artists.  Can I run a report using SKU?

You can run a sales report by team member! Do you have your artists added as team members @KAGallery?

You can also do an item sales report, which would function as the SKU report. Here's a Support Article with some of the reporting options we offer. Let me know if you have any questions.

How do you avoid selling the same work of art twice?  As I understand it, the inventory will allow a sale even if there is zero in stock.  For art, there is always only one so selling something more than once is a big problem.

@AnnFoxPoint thanks for asking! Are you selling the art online or in person? 

When an item sells out or is no longer in stock, it won’t be available for purchase through Square Online. The item will appear as “sold out” and can’t be added to your customer’s online cart.

If you're selling in person, this is a current feature we are testing and working on, but the idea is that if you're selling a physical item it cannot be sold past the final product.
