I was not logging in but got a 2-factor authentication code on my phone. Is something wrong? Does it mean someone tried to log in to my account?

Unfortunately it is fraud season, so this might happen from time to time. So long as you have that 2-factor authentication setup, you should be fully protected from things like this.
Even without 2-factor enabled, you're also protected by the password security as well as the device notification email that lets you know when someone signs in on a new device.
It's better to be on the safe side of things, so I recommend changing your password to your Square account and also the email account that you signed up with.
