✨ Welcome + Introduce Yourself

You made it! Welcome to Square’s togetHER community 🙌

Our purpose is for you to find connection, advice, encouragement, and community with fellow women in business and allies. This community is built for and by you, so make it your own.

First step: Introduce yourself in this thread! We want to get to know each and everyone one of you here. Stuck on how you should introduce yourself to other lady bosses? Here are some things to cover: Tell us who you are, what you’re working on and what type of business you own. If you have an online store, feel free to share with the group!

Our guiding principles

We all want productive, friendly conversation propelling us forward. Keep these in mind when posting:

  • Share actionable information/material. We want this group to provide advice and actions that you can implement immediately to improve your business. Give context when asking questions and be detailed in your responses. Post about the difficult things so we can figure out an answer together as a community.
  • Assume good intent. Tone on the internet is very difficult to convey. Let’s assume that everyone posting here comes from a place of good intention, so we can do the same. If anything feels amiss, please report it to our moderators.
  • Treat your fellow sellers with respect. We all come from different backgrounds and may not always agree with one another, but we can always treat each other with respect. We have a zero tolerance policy for harassment or abuse of sellers or moderators because this should be a happy place on the internet.
  • No spam or excessive self promotion. We’ve all seen those groups with the same people posting the same thing every single day. Let’s respect each other’s time and refrain from this type of excessive self promotion. But, by all means, when it’s time to celebrate you, shout that accomplishment from the rooftops!

Can’t wait to see your posts and celebrate you! 🎉

Hi! My name is Abby and I own Abigail's Gift Boutique (brick & mortar) in St. Louis, MO, USA! We are heading into our 8th year in business. So far we have survived two cars crashing into our building, one pandemic and one floor... whew. We launched our online store (www.agbstl.com) last year during the pandemic and it definitely helped us get through the toughest time. We use Square for Retail, Square Online, Square Loyalty, Square Marketing, and Square Payroll. It is great to finally have all of those functions under one umbrella.

It is so great to see so many strong, independent, business owning women on here... YOU ROCK! Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see all that we can share to help each other grow.

Welcome @Abigails_stl! Really sorry to hear about the car accidents at your store - I hope that didn't all happen last year?! Thanks for sharing your site and letting us know how you use Square too! Delighted to have you here.

Hello.

my name is Colleen and I am a social worker by day and crafter by night. I have begun to turn my crafts into a second job, a hobby that I love with purpose. My crafts I sell are to help cushion the fact that I do not make a lot in my work field. I use square and weebly, which I love using. My goal is to increase my business with my crafts and hopefully get more sales while I am on a limited budget.

Welcome @Cpassetto! I think a lot of folks start their businesses 'by night' but balancing it with a full time job is tough I'm sure. I hope you can share some tips with the group!

Thank you. So far I find having a balance is important. I will share as soon as I figure more out as I go. My biggest struggle being a fresh starting business is how to get traffic to my website on a limited budget.

Hi Community,

Mandi Kay from Texas. Its great that Square has started groups to help each other through challenging times. This really helps Square to better understand what challenges we as a Square community face so that they can equip us with resources to help us grow. My company has been with Square for a few years, square has helped my Transportation company grow. There has been different processing companies trying to get our business but honestly none of them compare to all the resources that square has to offer. We use Square for payroll, marketing- text- email- Facebook- Instagram -etc., savings account, invoicing, contracts, loans. We really would be lost without Square. For all you newbies, know that you are in the right place with Square.

Hello, from Gritty Waffle (Sandy Eggo)!

Website/Square account are one and the same:  www.simplexities.com

I'm also on Facebook-- www.facebook.com/simplexities

I'm Kaytee, born and raised in L.A., married, 2 adult sons, 2 dogs, 1 chicken, lots of plants, and a couple of tons of craft supplies.... I make stuff-- bead work and crochet, mainly. I was selling mostly via art shows/trunk shows, but since the quarantine began, those have been all but non-existent. The one "virtual art show" I was in this summer, resulted in no sales; a similar one last year had one sale. Comic Con Virtual art show 2021

I've had Square since they first handed (mailed...) out free dongles for swipeable credit cards, and had a Square Market account when they first had that.... Both worked better for me than the current chip reader and Weebly site. I had had a regular business Weebly site, which went "Poof!" the next time I tried to edit/update it, after Square merged with Weebly, and couldn't get it back because I couldn't get hold of anybody "in charge" of the Weebly website; kept getting my mss redirected to Square, and they had no control over the Weebly stuff... very frustrating. The chip readers (both the touch pad and the dongle) work only sometimes... thus have to manually enter info for higher fees, and the current website is more difficult to update (and slower to respond to edits). On-line invoicing works fine, though. Currently, my URL redirects to the Square "store" account (which needs "updating" again). I'd like to re-create a "real" website, but am afraid of doing something that would make what I have go "Poof!" again.

I make stuff, or I get sad.

Hey there! My name is Angie Wurtzler, I own AVH Ink & Vinyl LLC in Breese, IL. We've been in business since 2006. I started with one 40" Graphtec vinyl cutter in a spare room at home. We moved into a building in 2014 and added screen printed apparel, added embroidery to our services in 2018 and moved to a larger building in 2019. Today we offer screen printing, embroidery, vinyl graphics, signs, banners, magnets, business cards, can coolies and more. AVH Ink & Vinyl LLC employs six talented women and we're in the process of adding another. Although I didn't intend on only hiring women but, I'm really proud to say this is a women owned, women operated business. A few weeks ago we added two more Tajima embroidery machines and we're in the process of buying the building we're leasing. It's pretty scary but, exciting at the same time.

We've been very fortunate to have loyal customers and great referral network. Everyone in our industry has struggled in some way through this pandemic and we've had to really rally to keep the work coming in. I was able to pay my employees while we were closed due to COVID shutdowns by creating a campaign to support ourselves, as well as our community of local businesses. Our Support CC Tee campaign raised $90,000 to give back to our local business owners in the summer of 2019. It was unbelievable and something we will never forget and always be proud of.

Yesterday I was most worried about getting the apparel we need to do the job. Today I was informed we may not be able to get ink to print our jobs or chemicals to reclaim screens. It's just a constant kick in the teeth these days but, we're not going to panic. We'll ride this out with grace and a smile on our face.

Bend with the wind folks and have a great day! 🙂

Hello fellow TogetHER community members.

My name is Kristin Hart Bowers and I own a new maker business in Oregon, USA. I teach creative workshops (both online and in person) and make paper embroidery stitch kits (retail, wholesale, and custom with a minimum) for greeting cards and small art pieces. My message and workshops center around the connection, mindfulness, gratitude, and sense of accomplishment this creative outlet brings.

Passionate about sustainability, for every kit that I sell I partner with nonprofit One Tree Planted to plant a tree.

If you are interested in learning more or checking out my kits, my website is www.hartswellstitch.com and I can be reached at [email protected]. My most active social media at this point is Instagram (@hartswell_stitch).

I look forward to connecting and supporting each other via this community.
