Possibly fraud

I recieved a large payment for an order.  Square believes it to be fraudulent after jumping through the hoops.  Do I have eat the fees on that?

Seems square would make decisions ion how my business grows and not accept larger payments.

Hi Kermat13,

Sorry about your issue, I'm not sure about the transaction processing fees - I'm thinking that maybe it will be a business loss at this point as Square is charged by the card companies for their services too.

As for future transactions - Square does have a feature called "Risk Manager" whereas you can setup rules for your transactions and decide if you want to accept or reject an individual transaction.  It's worth a look - first login to your Account, on the right side of your Account Dashboard there's a menu, scroll down to "Payments", click on Payments, then click on "Risk Manager", there you can setup specific rules and alerts for your transactions.   Just a suggestion of course.

I was going to mention Risk Manager, too, @JK_Fiber_Art.  It’s a great and very flexible option for online retailers.  Here’s a link to to the Getting Started Guide.  Most likely your fees will not be refunded, due to Square’s new policy that brings them in line with the rest of the credit card world.  Square is not refunded their fees from Visa/MC/etc, either.  Only the customer wins in this situation, I’m afraid.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that Square was probably not the decider here.  Someone else — like Visa, or the cardholder’s bank, etc — probably made an inquiry or dispute.  Square was asked to get more information, which it seems like you provided when they asked you.  But Square is most likely only relaying the decision of someone else up the “food chain,” as it were.

I’m sorry to hear about this.  Spend some quality time with Risk Manager.  Watch the video.  Reach the FAQs.  It’s a great resource to help protect you in the Wild West of the internet!

It doesn't seem like a risk management issue.  Square is limiting my possible growth.  It's not fair that I should have to lose $370 in this if they decided it might be fraud, there is no mention of any outside influences like visa or whatever.

yes were having a similar issue where square has said its possible stolen credit card and yet they processed it now saying we need to refund it, though we never actually received it, but minus the fees, the guy on the phone from square was not helpful at all
