LGBTQ dead name issues

Hi there,

Just a posting a warning to any lgbtq people before you use square for a new business venture.

If you changed your legal name in the last 6 months, even if you've had credit funded in your new name recently, square will not be able to verify your identity.

You have to choose whether to use your dead name in your account creation and get verified, or use your current name and ID documents and risk denial of service. If you have your old ID card numbers that might work. But since reaching out for help, square support have told me nothing can be done and to use a different payment platform since they are unwilling to try resolve the situation.

Hi @Skyl3rN,

Thank you for writing into to Seller Community! I notice it's your first post, welcome 👋

At this time, the identity verification step is an automatic process, meaning that what you enter when attempting to verify your identity is matched back to the information on file with the credit bureau. The reason the CS team would have recommended entering previous information is that it can sometimes take 12+ months for this information to be updated. The same is true if your address or ID document number has changed.

Unfortunately, we're not able to manually verify documents to verify your identity, but I'm hoping this is something we can change soon. I understand how frustrating it is to sign up for a service you're unable to use. When I first tried creating my personal Square account, my identity verification failed as I'd only recently moved to Australia, even though I held a Victorian license and credit card.

Creating a Square account is and always will be free, so you can always attempt signing up again in a few months.
