Square Reader is not connecting with the app

Since the last update on my app, my square reader will not connect with the app. I have tried unnstalling and reinstalling the app. Recharging the reader. I know I can enter the card details manually but I get charged a higher percentage. Any advice?

Hi @Fragglecowan, thank you for your question! It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with your Square Card Reader and not Square Reporting specifically, so I've moved your reply to a new thread to make it easier for us to help troubleshoot.

When you have a chance, please run through the steps below. These troubleshooting steps usually help resolve the underlying connection issues and get the reader working again:

  1. Make sure you are using a compatible device
  2. Make sure the Square Point of Sale app and the iOS or operating software is up to date
  3. Forget the reader from the device's Bluetooth setting
  4. Turn the Bluetooth off and back on
  5. If you’re using an iPhone or iPad on iOS 13, make sure Bluetooth permissions for the Square app are enabled. To do so, head to Settings > Privacy > Bluetooth > enable permissions for the Square app.
  6. Turn the device off and back on
  7. Hard reset of reader -- hold button for around 20 seconds, wait for lights to turn orange, then red, then release the button when all the lights have stop flashing
  8. Go back into the Square app > Settings > Card readers > Connect a reader and follow the prompt

If you have ran through all the steps above and are still unable to get the reader to connect, the best course of action is to file a warranty claim for your Square Reader in the Square Shop.

I hope this will help!
