Does the Square hub provide power to devices?

It appears hub powers SQ docking station for iPads, but does it also for other devices connected via USB?

If not, do I need to frequently disconnect the chip reader stand to plug directly into electric outlet?

Would be easier if hub provided both power and network connection to iPad stand

Yes, the power cord for the square stand has 3 USB ports in it. Currently we have our printer and card reader pluged into it. Buy the card reader stand to save yourself the trouble of having to charge the reader every night. Plus it looks much better mounted in it to the customer.
