scheduling manager should not see pay rates

I feel like this has been discussed before, but I searched and searched every keywords I could think of, and came up with nothing. I know this was discussed before, so please link me to the discussion and updates.

I am trying to find out when there will be a way to keep scheduling managers from being able to see everyone's pay rate.  It seems that this should be a permission that is already available.  The individual team member pay rate is not a required piece of data in order to schedule the team members into their shifts.

If someone knows a way to accomplish having a team member able to create team schedules without seeing their team member's pay rate, please let me know how to do that.

If it is not yet available, can someone please provide an update on this and if this is something that is in the roadmap any time soon.

Also if you know what to search to find the posts about this topic, please let me know.  I searched several keywords and phrases and came up with nothing.  I am sure I remember seeing something about this topic at some point.

Thank you!

Hi @BofBArtStudio yep this is supported. Under Permissions > Shifts, there is a permission specific to being able to see wages and labor costs on schedules and timecards. Team members can still create/edit schedules and timecards without having this permission. Let us know if any more questions on it. cc @JasonSQPM

Thank you, @svanbrunt @JasonSQPM

but this does not work.

I have set the scheduling manager permission set to turn off the ability to see pay rates, and they can still see everyone's pay rate.  They just no longer see Total Labor Cost Dollars for the whole team in the Schedule.

However, when they click on a team member, it shows their pay rate in the team member popup.

Also, by disabling the pay rate viewing permission, Managers can no longer upload documents on the documents tab of a team member (such as write-ups).  However, they can clearly see each team member's rate of pay.

Therefore, this permission setting is not working at all as expected.

Here is the screen shot of the permission option turned off for the Scheduling Managers

Hi @BofBArtStudio - thanks for the info.

The reason they are seeing that wage data is because they have the `Team Management` permissions to manage team members.  The show wage and labor cost permission is only applicable to schedules and timecards.

Can you help me better understand what those team members are doing where they require access to manage documents and uploads but not see pay rates?

Well one example is to upload the document for the write-up when we need to write up a team member for instance for tardiness, or any other kind of write up.  Also the manager of each store uploads the signed document that shows that a team member has received a key and has become a key holder.

I assume that the document section of the team members is for that purpose correct?

Also, it feels like this new permission setting is the opposite of what we would want.

For instance we've been waiting for the ability for managers to not see everyone's pay rate, but we still need managers to be able to track overall total labor cost compared to sales.

So this permission set that was just provided to us does the opposite of that, it removes the ability for them to see total labor cost for the team as a whole at each location, and complete the daily reports that show labor cost compared to sales, but it still gives them the ability to see the individual pay rates of each team member which is what we're trying to avoid.

For instance if total labor cost for the week across the entire location is say $5,000 and total revenue for the week is only say $15,000

Then the daily managers report would show that there's a 33% labor cost to revenue for the week.

However if the sales dip to say 10,000 and labor cost remains the same, the daily managers report indicates that there was a 50% labor cost to revenue.

One important job of the scheduling manager is to make sure that we are scheduling appropriately according to sales so that our labor cost is not disproportionate percentage from our sales.

But they should still not see each other's pay rate. For example if we have three managers at a location they should not be able to see what they are each being paid per hour or by salary.

With a team our size, if they only see the total labor cost across all team members, they really couldn't accurately work backwards to find out what each individual makes especially their co-managers. One manager might be at a different pay rate than another manager and I don't really need them seeing what they're each earning.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Thank you 🦋

Thanks for all of this helpful context - I am bringing this back with the team to see how we can offer more flexibility to better serve your needs.  We appreciate it!

Thanks for looking into it and please let me know if there any updates around this topic.

I decided to do the following (after considering your input):

  • I turned off the team member viewing and editing for scheduling managers so that they can no longer see anyone's pay rate
  • Since turning that off, prevents them from using the Employee Documents feature:
For employee documents such as write-ups and key holder agreements and other important arguments per employee We Will be switching to some kind of document portal.
  • We turned off the ability to see wages and labor costs on permissions->shifts, which then removed the per row employee earnings info (good), and had the adverse effect of no longer showing the total labor dollars across the team (not so good).
  • However, it turns out, even though total labor dollars are not showing up at the bottom of the scheduling page anymore, at least the Scheduling Manager permission still allow them to view the labor vs sales report to get a percentage of last week and the week before and last month for example.   So they can use that percentage to fill in the daily managers report for filling in Last Week, Last Month and This Week Last Year for total labor vs sales percentage and total labor dollars.  It would be helpful if that report showed total number of hours reported.

So, overall, I think we were able to figure out work-arounds for everything.  I will put in a post to the ideate section for adding total team hours to the labor vs sales report.

Thank you.
