With the update in Team Permissions, how do I turn off payroll from a Manager?

Is there a way to turn off payroll function from a team member in team permissions? A Manager should not be able to run payroll for themselves, but should be able to run payroll for their staff? I see where there are questions about this in the community all the way back to 2017. Hope by 2024 they might have resolved this....

Hi @PickupsPizza1.  Your post made me think I had missed a change and the Payroll was now included in the Permission set settings.  But it doesn’t seem to be, which means that currently payroll is still considered an owner-only function.

I’m not sure that Square has ever seriously considered making Payroll a team-permitted function.  There are just too many potential problems with doing so.  I’m assuming that your manager either has your owner login credentials to use when they run payroll, or you are logging in for them.  If you don’t want to run payroll yourself, that is the only option you have which means that the manager either has all of payroll or none of it, as designed.

If you feel that strongly about the possibility of abuse in your operation, then the only recommendation I can come up with is to head over to the Ideate Board and submit a feature request Square Staff and Payroll team.  What you are asking for here is a whole new set of payroll permission settings, and that is a pretty large undertaking since most of us probably run payroll ourselves as owners.  That’s probably why Square has never implemented this, since it’s a good possibility that not many sellers would even have the need for it.  Anyway, once you submit the request, they’ll review it, and do their best to gauge the need among the larger Square Community, then they will decide if they want to add it to the future product roadmap.

I‘m sorry I can’t be of more help here.
