Shift scheduling issues

Greetings,

(CAPS are for highlights, not for yelling! Lol)

I’ve noticed a few glitches for shift scheduling.  Before I start please make note, because this is very important.  I DO NOT usually start a schedule from scratch.  Most likely, I copy a schedule from a previous week and adjust it.

First —— When I copy a schedule to a new week, I expect (because it is reasonable and correct) that any conflicts due to requested time off and/or availability will be highlighted for me to correct.  This is true for availability, but is completely NOT TRUE for time off requests.  Therefore, this week I posted a schedule that did not give an employee their time off request, and I looked like an idiot.

Second —— IF I DO ENTER A SCHEDULE MANUALLY (rare, but it happens) when I look at a “blank slate new week” (ie - one with no shifts entered, I am currently able to see time off requests.  But I am not able to see availability until I try to enter a shift and am then informed that there is a conflict.  That’s frustrating.

It seems to me that the blank schedule should show all availability/time off requests.

And it seems to me that when I copy a schedule from one week to the next, that it would do two things — tell me that it copied but with conflicts, and show me ALL conflicts (availability and time off requests).

As it is now, there are a lot of unnecessary steps that I’m having to go through.

Lastly, are there any plans to allow requests for time off to be only partial days, not entire days?  This is very common — an employee might want to request off for the morning shift but is able to work the closing shift (on a day they are usually available.)

Thanks,

Chip

@seiderman I’m tagging you because I think I worked with you on this scheduling module before.  If that’s no longer the case, apologies for the intrusion.

Hey Chip,

Thanks for reaching out. I recently switched over to work on Square Loyalty, but adding in @svanbrunt who’s leading this area now for visibility and to provide some more up to date information.

On your first issue: Might be misunderstanding the issue, but are you saying approved time off is getting canceled when you copy the schedule from one week to the next? If so, that’s not intended and something we’ll need to investigate further. Curious, did your employees get a notification that their time off was canceled?

On the second point: I know this is a common pain point, and something the team has looked into improving. I’ll let Scott cover exactly how the team is thinking about this now.

Lastly, not sure if you’re using Square Loyalty, but if you are feel free to send feedback my way.

Thanks!

@svanbrunt @seiderman Clarifying my first issue, complete with screen shots.. First, no time off is NOT getting cancelled.  It’s getting overridden and hidden.

Screen Shot 1 — you’ll note that Dilon (and others) have approved time off for the prom.  I circled Dilon’s approved time off for 4/22.

Screen Shot 2 - I go to the next week and add a shift for Dilon on Friday, 4/29.  Then I copy that schedule to the week with 4/22 and Dilon’s approved time off.

Screen Shot 3 - Dilon’s approved time off is overwritten with the copied shift.  If I delete the shift, the time off is there, hidden underneath.  At the least, there should be an exclamation point, or something, on that shift telling me there is a conflict that needs resolved.

@seiderman I just started using Loyalty this year.  So far so good, but I do have one issue that is here — https://www.sellercommunity.com/t5/Square-Terminal/Loyalty-Connected-Terminal-amp-Cash-Sales/td-p/35...

I’d appreciate your thoughts on it.  Thanks!  I’ll reply to the rest in another post.
