I would like to know if this is a legitimate email about a subpoena received about my account.

Hi there @JBurke.. Without seeing the email header, we can't say for certain.  Look at that.  What is the "from" email address?  Just as critical, what is the "reply to" email address?  One, or both, of those will tell you everything you need to know.  Another thing to remember is that you would also get a notification on your web dashboard if something like this was real, so check those, too.  Lastly, I will say that that contact information shown in the email looks highly suspicious, for a few reasons.

Was my post helpful? Take a moment to mark it as a solution. Marked solutions help other sellers find possible resolutions to similar problems. Also, if you find your solution elsewhere (say, through Support), it is helpful to come back to your post and tell us about it, then mark that as a Solution. Solutions are what this Community is all about!

@JBurke One more thing.  You can always contact Square Support directly.  They can confirm or deny anything.

I actually Googled this earlier, and mean to write a similar response but life happened and here I am.  I did actually notice this on Reddit in my search and from majority there it did seem to be legit, but they had a case number etc in the header which is unknown here.

Best way again is to get in touch with Square like you mentioned.

Hi,

I would contact an attorney but @TheRealChipA  made a good point. With so many scams nowadays, check what the email of the sender is.

Also a subpoena through an email sounds very sketchy but always take precaution, incase it's not.
