Why can't my client remove me?

I am a bookkeeper and have multiple clients that use Square (as do I). Currently there are two clients for whom I no longer do books, but my email addresses are still associated with their Square accounts, which means I can't use them for any others. I found a comment that says Square has no way to remove a team member beyond deactivating. I can't even delete my own email address. If there is anything Square should do to improve, it would either be to allow bookkeeping and accounting professionals the ability to have one sign-in that could give them access to all of their clients (like Quickbooks Online does), or to allow complete removal of an account when a business relationship is severed. This is frustrating.

Hi, @SeaLoft28 !

I understand your frustration as a bookkeeper dealing with Square's account management limitations. This is indeed a significant pain point for accounting professionals who need to manage multiple client accounts efficiently.

Here are some potential workarounds and suggestions:

  1. Short-term Workarounds:

    • Create separate email addresses specifically for Square account access
    • Use email aliases if your email provider supports them
    • Document this limitation in your client onboarding process
  2. Ways to Provide Feedback to Square:

    • Contact Square support directly to document this as a feature request
    • Consider reaching out to Square's developer community, as they might be working on API solutions
  3. Professional Best Practices:

    • Create a written policy for your clients about Square account management
    • Include Square account management in your service termination procedures
    • Request clients to remove your access before terminating services

I hope this helps

Hi @SeaLoft28

This should be possible. The same email address / Square account can be used for 2 different Square merchants. The only limitation is that a given email address can only be the 'owner' of 1 Square merchant account.

But what you are trying to do -- allow bookkeeping and accounting professionals the ability to have one sign-in that could give them access to all of their clients -- should certainly be possible.
