I’m writing to request a basic but critical feature for Square Staff.
As a manager, I need to know when an employee is running late or is a potential no-show so I can make real-time staffing decisions. Right now, there is no reliable way to know whether staff are on site without manually checking cameras or digging through the Square dashboard after the fact.
The Staff alert settings show many options, but alerts only appear inside the Workday view or go to the employee themselves. Managers do not receive any active notification.
The “alerts” in the Workday view are not true alerts. There are no emails, texts, or push notifications. You only see them if you are actively checking the page, which defeats the purpose.
Every other workforce tool we’ve used supports this. This gap makes it impossible to hold staff accountable in real time or adjust coverage when someone is late or doesn’t show.
Because of this limitation, we are seriously considering migrating off Square Staff and Square Payroll to a third-party platform.
All that’s needed is a simple option:
Send an automatic email (or notification) to managers when an employee does not clock in within X minutes of their scheduled shift.
Please consider adding this. It’s a basic operational requirement.
Thank you.
Hey @toastedbeta . Thank you for sharing your thoughts and comments about the staff module. I too use the module and can absolutely see where you are coming from.
This would normally fall into the "ideate" category and in doing some searching I found a similar topic here - Staff Alert Request
I would suggest commenting in that post, and asking others to weigh in as well, as the development team uses some feedback from that board in priortizing feature requests. Actually, one of the moderators has set the status to "open", which means it is under consideration at least.
Hope this helps and thanks for sharing your thoughts.
