California CalSavers retirement savings program integration with square

Hello,

I use Square payroll for all my employees and in California it became a mandate that as of January the State law requires employers that don’t offer their own retirement plan to facilitate CalSavers If you employed an average of one or more California-based employees in the previous calendar year.

When signing up for CalSavers it gives you an option to intergrate with your payroll provider and I noticed that Square payroll was not listed. Is this integrated so that the payrol service deducts this from our employees paycheck and makes the deposit into the CalSavers account?  I need to know if this a feature or not since if it's not i'm going to have to change payroll providers.

Please help.

Hey @bsantos,

To ensure I give you the most precise details, I've contacted our payroll specialist for additional insights. I'll update you as soon as I have more information.

Did you get an answer for this? I'm having the same issue for Illinois.

Square

Square has the option to set up a benefit so that contributions are automatically deducted from each paycheck. For CalSavers you can find instructions here about creating the "Roth IRA" benefit type. We don't currently have an integration with CalSavers, so you will need to deposit funds into the account on your own.
