I make and sell retail and wholesale Confections and bakery among other things. I wish there was a way to mark items I sell as wholesale as tax exempt so I don't have to manually calculate it out when I am paying my sales taxes every month.
Thank you so much for reaching out with this feedback! I just want to confirm you would like this ability for the point-of-sale app correct? Because with Square Online you can mark an item as tax-exempt.
You can ring up the entire sale as normal then swipe the Tax off for that sale. This is how we do it for our Tax Exempt Sales and then in the notes we can put in the company or persons name. I wish I could add a customer, and in the information of the tax where it asks for Tax ID, have a Check box for Tax Exempt. This way every time the customer comes in their sale is Tax Exempt because of their Tax Exempt ID.
Then at the end of the year, I do a CSV and then sort by No Tax or $0.00 I forget which one and then sort by the customers name.
We also created a Barcode that is called Wholesale, that we can charge a variable amount for that is Tax Exempt. This is great for our Custom Wedding candles that get shipped to another state with no Tax.
