Split a single item

Allow us to split an item on a check. This used to be annoying, now my staff are using it as a way to steal from me. I will be switching to Toast if there is not a fix soon. This SIMPLE feature that is basic on every other restaurant POS has been requested for years.

The help article says:

"You can split a check with Square for Restaurants mobile POS, but splitting an item (e.g. a bottle of wine split multiple ways) is not available."

That is the feature we are all missing, splitting a single item (ie. a bottle of wine split multiple ways). Has that feature actually been added, and just the help article needs to be updated?

Hey Kristen, the help article you posted on this points to a different article, for splitting checks etc. The original post is about splitting items and sharing them between checks. Example: an appetizer that 2 guests want to pay half n half. I do know that there is new functionality that makes this happen, but I dont know where the article is.

Kristen - not sure why you changed this to delivered, this feature is not available as requested in this thread and it is currently in Beta testing here: Beta Split Item Test Group. This is still an active Test Group (I actually requested to join it yesterday before you made this change).

The article you linked is NOT about splitting an item, it's about splitting a check - very different in the restaurant world. It looks like the Test Group is on splitting a single item across multiple checks. For example, 2 people are getting an appetizer and splitting the cost of the appetizer. This means that 1/2 [[Appetizer]] is on one check with Guest 1's food and drinks and 1/2 [[Appetizer]] is on Guest 2's check with their food and drinks.

It would be helpful for this status to be reverted back to Active Testing until the linked Test Group is completed.

Hi @AlexMPH - you're absolutely right! @makedonas, same to you. I had too many tabs open and was trying to update too many things at once and made a mistake. This feature is in beta. I'll go back and edit my previous post too. Thanks for tagging me!

Also, under “Whats New” there is a Nov 26 2024 update that says this is either now live or coming soon for most accounts.
