Split a single item

Split a single item

Allow us to split an item on a check. This used to be annoying, now my staff are using it as a way to steal from me. I will be switching to Toast if there is not a fix soon. This SIMPLE feature that is basic on every other restaurant POS has been requested for years.

a long dream of all of us. They're really dragging their feet on this essential feature. Having these workarounds is ridiculous and messes up inventory. "it's on the road map." It's a really long road! The start of this thread with the request was in June 2017!

Well after all these years the split check by seat number option just randomly appeared on the screen as an option. There's no mention of a feature change anywhere. There's only only option to automatically split into one check per seat. A decent start but once done, if you have couples to groups, you then have to go back and put them back together (ie, a four top where seat 1&2 are a couple on one check and seat 3&4 are together) so you split by seat, then have to go a merge 1& 2 and then merge 3&4.

Still no option to split the cost of a single item like a bottle of wine between two checks. At least they're working on it.

Typically there would be a choice to split by multiple seats. The main issue with the setup is you have seat numbers set as a modifier to an item instead of an actually seat setup initially.

I really need this to be a feature! Same as others have said, if two people order a bottle of wine or an appetizer and want to split the cost, it should be an option on the POS. This seems like it's one of the basic functions a restaurant POS should have.

Wow! 2024 and nothing yet?

We just started using square. 4 days in and have come across this problem. We will move to another system, this is ridiculous.

Has there been any motion with this and your development team. We have been on Square for over 2 and a half years and have been requesting this since we moved over. As many people have stated, this is a common feature for practically every restaurant POS out there.

Once an item has been added to the check, Team Members should be able to select any item, click the "..." menu that pulls up the option to "Move...", "Comp", "Remove" with a 4th option that says "Split Item." This feature/flow would work identical to the option on the pay screen to split a check by giving the option to Split the item by a # (so 2+ where 2 = ½, 3 = ⅓, 4 = ¼, etc.). The Item Price should be divided by the number of splits needed and the item name can be updated to [[Item Name]] - [[Split Number]]. For example, an Appetizer item called "Southwest Eggrolls" for $18.00, split 3 ways would show on the check as "Southwest Eggrolls - 1", "Southwest Eggrolls - 2", and "Southwest Eggrolls - 3" each of which have a $6.00 price to them and the tax is then added to this adjusted price and would all a Team Member to split the item(s) onto their own checks with the other entrees for the respective meal.

The majority of this functionality already exists in other places/screens throughout Square, it's just a matter of adapting it to the individual item level and testing to make sure it computes correctly.

He all, I’m on beta and have received the split capability. It’s fantastic and does just what we need. I assume it will go live soon. Fingers crossed!

We have lots of customers that like to share appetizers or bottles of wine. Splitting a single item across many seats/checks is critical. The workaround of having to enter a custom amount and having the servers split that costs among the checks manually would be a time waste and would also negatively affect inventory, as we would have to void the actual item button that was initially used on the table. This is a CRITICAL feature!
