Cost of Goods Sold report for Square Restaurant

Cost of Goods Sold report for Square Restaurant

I see requests going back almost 3 years for Cost of Goods Sold reporting for Square Restaurant. Why hasn't it been implemented? It's a very standard report offered by every competitor (Toast, Lightspeed, etc.) and it's essential to running the business.

Every time I try to find an option, your pages tell me I have to sign up for Square Retail. But since I'm a Square Restaurant customer already, signing up for Square Retail makes no sense.

Please add this feature soon. It's impossible to generate accurate P&L statements or budgets in Quickbooks if we can't get basic COGS reports from Square.

P.S. We added a "Cost" custom attribute in the Item Library. So the data is already there. Square could just allow the option to add Custom Attributes to the reporting fields in its Reports functions. Though longterm, a Cost field needs to be a standard field for Items and a COGS report a standard part of the reporting.

I agree This is frustrating. COGs should by default be a part of this system.

This absolutely needs to be a thing. Food cost is such an integral part of the industry.

@BlackBearCafe Does the Customer Attribute field come through in the reporting?

This is huge for us....We are switching to Square, though this could be a deal breaker. Our former POS had this and we have 5 years worth of COG data that assisted in menu planning, purchases, profit reports, etc. Square Retail has this, so why not Restaurant?

When I asked a CS Rep the other day, their explanation was that Square didn't have the ability to keep up with every ingredient in the kitchen and recipe costs...We don't need that much detail, so please stop overthinking this...we already know what each item/dish costs to make (though there are some really expensive 3rd party apps that will do this for you)....Is that the real issue....does square want us to use/pay for 3rd party apps instead of putting into what should be standard in a restaurant POS? Please make this a reality soon

@BlackBearCafe I have the same question as @bellevueorchard

How do you use the Custom Attribute field? It doesn't seem to export on any item sales reports.

@WineSneak You can't export it as part of the report.

@ICStache You can also add on Square for Retail to your account if it's cheaper overall than the 3PP apps.

Overall a big reason we switched away from Square. It's just not built for us.

Interesting about the Square for Retail option. Too bad Square isn't proactive enough to suggest that

I just looked at the pricing and it is cheaper to go with Thrive if you have more than one location.
