Hi @PSRLLC77. Fees are paid for total money moved from one person to another through the financial system. This is a banking policy regulated by banking regulations and laws. Square is charged (by Visa, Mastercard, etc) for the total of a transaction, and we are being charged for that same total. If you are a business that accepts tips via credit cards, the fees are charged on those tips, also.
Fees are charged for the convenience of accepting card payments. If you don’t want to pay fees, the best thing to do is not to accept cards. Otherwise, I’d recommend increasing your prices. If you add 3-4% to all of your prices, then the customers will be paying your fees, more or less. Yes, even cash customers will pay that extra, but that benefits you in the end.
But this is the way it is. If we accept cards for payments, we pay for that convenience.
Regards,
I don't mind the fees it's that there charging me as a whole we with state taxes it should be just for the amount with the tax part I already have to give the state there's it's like I'm paying for the money that the state is already getting paid why not just charge me for my billing and not adding the state taxes with my final pay because I'm not getting that money the state is why can't the state pay they're own put why should i cents add up when you have your kids to take care of ok to give you a better understanding I charge $9.50 and $18 for a job Georgia tech is 9%, why do you add the 9% to my total amount and I get charged for it that money I do not see it I don't even receive it so why am I paying George's party in this and why not it be just charged me for the 2.9 + 30 to my $950.18 instead of charging me for the $85 that the state paying why are you adding both together and charging me a fee I should only get charged for what I charge the customer not with the state is charging you're adding the state and my price I give to the client together and charging me extra I know it might be confusing but I broke down the numbers I'm technically only supposed to be paying $27 and some change not 30 something dollars because you added the state tax to my final pay I don't receive that final pay that tax money that goes to the state so I feel like I should not pay that portion the state should pay that portion because it's there's charging that price I'm not getting in anything out of it only thing I'm getting out of it is that y'all are charging me extra change for the state charging their taxes
@PSRLLC77 I understand. But that is the way card processing works and always has worked. We pay fees for all money that is sent from one bank to another using cards, including taxes and tips. It’s a normal cost of doing business.
Since the state isn’t forcing you to accept cards, they don’t have to deduct that from what you owe them. If you decide to deduct it, they will fine you and take more in interest. Or they will do worse — like revoke your business license.
Your only choices here are to increase your prices or quit taking cards.
