Decimal Point In Invoices

Decimal Point In Invoices

We are a service business and need to charge clients by our time. I need to input 23 hours and 45 minutes but I cannot since it is not an "item" for sale. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

Hi @abpa , that’s an excellent feature request. We appreciate you sharing your business use case and why it would be valuable for you. If you know of any fellow Seller Community members who would like to see this built out as well, feel free to tag them in your post so they can share their thoughts as well! The more sellers chime in to the request, the more likely it is to catch our product team's eye.

@abpa we are a service business as well and do all billing through invoices.  We never charge out through an appointment.  Is this how you do it?  If so, you can create an item called labor and create a unit of measure for hours which will allow for a decimal point.  Let me know if this makes sense!

I would also like to see this feature! The invoice gives the impression that it is possible - i.e. shows the message: "Trying to sell a decimal quantity? Choose a variation sold by the unit..."  but it doesn't actually seem to work.

I bill some projects by the hour. I made an item that is the hourly cost set to the hourly price. Then I change the units to the number of hours in decimals. For example, 1 hour 45 minutes would be 1.75 units.

@betty - I tried this, and it won't let me input decimals.  Can you tell us more about how you setup the item.

We also sell our product based on tenth of a decimal place.  (2 decimal places) in Quantity on Invoices.  When importing invoices into Square it 'rounds' the quantity to the closest single decimal place which does not calculate correctly.  The imported amount is correct, however, when the customer calculates the qty * the rate and the amount is different, it calls into question if the square invoice is correct or not.

I reached out to API development, and they responded that the Square invoices API currently supports quantity up to a single decimal place.  They answered very quickly and their response was much appreciated.  I also ran some 'testing' in Square SB to determine if the amount would 'calculate' correctly with 2 decimal places, even though Square only showed one decimal place and that test failed.

I would like to request of the Product Liaison Team the increase to the quantity decimal place.  As Square scales to more and more industries that may sell in 'tenths' of a whole, this feature would be beneficial to Square's customers and open further opportunities for Square.

Thank you for your consideration.

Regards,
