Square Stand, no Magstripe USB

I purchased the new square stands. The older models had the magstripe which allowed for offline mode with credit cards and easy gift card swiping. The new ones have integrated insert & tap to pay, but no swipe function. To do offline mode and swipe gift cards you have to take the iPad out of the cradle, insert the USB or lightning swipe and then swipe. 

This is a huge mistake. You have the ability to add a card swipe by USB to remedy this, but none is offered....even worse, customer service is not able to address this issue. The hardware is was not developed. 

You should offer this at minimal; include to remedy; include and offer for free people who purchased the new stand the swipe USB hardware for free. 

This is a major problem for my business and customers.

Sorry for the confusion here but, The new Square Stand does offer the ability to process swiped payments. All you would need to do is attach the Magstripe Reader to the headphone jack located on the bottom right side of the Stand.

Could I add to this ticket yes that’s how it goes but I have had so many complaints is it’s flimsy can engineering design a clip to hold the swiper in place.

Did not know of that solution on the stand. @bdaneu comment is also correct. It is a flimsy and cheap solution for a pricey stand. It does not even ship with a card swipe...plus the location at the bottom is not a good location. 

This is just weird. I thought Square had always been a customer oriented company. The dev on the current stand products really missed the mark. Seems it skipped the customer test steps or feedback.

I agree so much with this. We open tabs/tickets by swiping the name information automatically and since we’re a bar we have to do this for about 70% of our transactions. Swiping with the portable reader in this awkward position takes up so much time. I’m stuck with my old first generation reader for this reason, and our iPad doesn’t even fit right we have to tape it in but it’s better than struggling with this terrible design. Is there any plan to go back to a solid swipe mechanism just at least to start tabs? Or can either other method read the customers names on the cards?

I wonder, is it possible to add a 3rd party Bluetooth swiper (if they make such a thing)
