Deposit for Appointment

Deposit for Appointment

I use the No Show protection for appointments, but most of the No shows and Late cancellation fees get declined because people are able to "turn off" their cards through their bank app. Therefore; The no show protection does me no good and I lose money. It would be great if we could charge a deposit to come out when they book and have that deducted from their total when they arrive (like have it show up itemized on the appt/receipt) It's too much to change all pricing to the same amount and customize the remainder when they arrive- it'd be nice to actually have a deposit required feature.

Hello, @HArmstrongSP - Welcome to our Ideate board!

We appreciate your interest in having the option to charge a deposit at the time of booking a Square appointment, this request has been quite popular by many other sellers as well, we hope to see this on a roadmap soon. If you haven’t yet, you may also consider asking your customers for a prepayment. You can find more information on that option here.

In the meantime, we will continue to gather information on this request and hope to see other Square sellers chime in. In the future, a Community moderator will update the status of this post to the next phase. Please keep an eye out for any update.

Thanks for your feedback and feature request.

I’ve been using square for years and we have been begging for this feature for so long. Square is amazing in so many ways but for service providers the lack of this feature is really disappointing and makes it seem like sellers needs are not being truly prioritized. Not having this feature directly affects the bottom line for service based businesses. I’m not sure why this hasn’t been on the top of your list to roll out as it is a top priority for beauty and service based businesses. I would argue that this should be a too priority for square too!

We love the new features (waitlist etc) but honestly wouldn’t need the waitlist much if we had the ability to charge deposits. The current work around is horrible, both time consuming and cumbersome and can lead to many mistakes when checking out customers. Additionally this work around can throw off all of the other beautiful data that square provides (right now data and payroll is the only reason to stay with square, other companies are catching up quickly)

Please bump this update to the top of the list. It is absolutely critical for us. I can imagine that so many businesses are considering switching to other appointment booking platforms just because of this feature. I’m holding on because of the data, but if I have to use a workaround I would rather use another platform. I’m too busy to do the extra work square is asking us to do to use this platform for booking.

PLEEEEASE make this functionality happen!!!! The option to hold a card for no shows and late cancellations is essentially useless because clients will book with invalid cards or freeze their cards to avoid being charged. I need the option to charge a booking deposit. Right now I have to send a payment link to every customer. It’s cumbersome and time consuming. Instead of full prepayment I want to just take a $25 deposit. WHHHYYYYY isn’t this an option??? Get with the Times Square!!!

We're noticing this happening more lately as well with an increase in unsuccessful no-show charges, even if we try again later. We're planning to migrate over to prepayment policy soon, however in an ideal world, we would be able to modify this setting by service:

  • straightforward services that have a inexpensive flat-rate fee -> require full prepayment at time of booking
  • custom services that depend on time spent -> capture partial prepayment with the remaining amount collected at time of service

CAN YOU PLEASE ADD THIS

This needs to be added ASAP. You have the option with Acuity, why is it not on Square Appointments also??!! I desperately need this option soon or I will be forced to switch everything over completely. Appointments, Payments, Payroll, EVERYTHING.

After reviewing the current pre-payment policy, one major hangup is the 30 day refund window! I am guessing that would also apply to a partial deposit option.

Our clients can book up to 90-120 days in advance currently, so we'd love to retain the option for clients to cancel anytime (at least 24 hours before their appointment per our cancellation policy) and get automatically refunded.

Guys, it's 2025. We NEED a deposit option for Square! One of the biggest users is in the beauty industry, and we have to take deposits!!!
