Whoa! What happened to sync between Square and Square Online

We used to have a setting that allowed us to designate that new items created in Square Dashboard would sync over to Square Online but would be marked "unavailable." That was great. It satisfied my way of working. I would create an Square dashboard. When I had time, I would go to Square Online and add a photo, description, categories and any other thing particular to online sales. THEN, I would mark it Visible.

 

Not, the bright product managers have given us only and option to have items automatically sync to Square Online and become available  (without photos, descriptions, categories, etc). or to have some other way to syncing that is totally unclear. So, you have to turn this option on.

 

Note, they rolled this out with auto sync turned off. HUH??? I had to call them to find out what the hell was happening with sync after items that I created in Square Dashboard hadn't shown up for three days.

 

Give us back the old option to sync automatically but with item Unavailable.

Hi @purplebutterfly@RobinM, @keicollective, @Thevioletfox and all. The Square Online team let us know this was not an intentional change and they are working to get it fixed. I know this is annoying and causing a lot of issues for you all, so hopefully this will be resolved soon. Thanks for your patience - I'll follow up here as soon as we have an update.

Hi @gouldstore! The updates I posted about yesterday addressed the item visibility issue that @purplebutterfly first posted about here. Specifically, the option to automatically import new items to Square Online as unavailable. You can also choose to set the visibility for synced items to visible or hidden if you prefer. This is in the Square Online overview page under Shared Settings > Item Sync > Item Visibility Settings. 


That said, it sounds like you might have a different issue. Can you give me some details on what's happening, and whether  it's happening in Square Online specifically? Thanks in advance!

Yes, I found the new options under Item Sync and set my default to syncing new items with them Unavailable. New items added after that did sync as unavailable. Great. Thanks for correcting the mistaken change.

Hi! I do not have some options on one of my accounts. I am missing some of the sync options and every time I change the "Automatically add new items to this site" it reverts back to off. Also if I turn off "sync item descriptions" just to see if it does it too it automatically reverts to on. This is rather annoying as I've already had an issue with my site updating and I finally figured that out.

I too vote to have the option to not have it visible. I have been able to fix the problem by going to Add Item From Library. HOWEVER...when I do so, the item is now saved as a Food & Bev item. If you change it to Physical, you lose all your variations. This is a huge problem. We figured out that if we leave the type as Food & Bev, we still see variations and the drop down menu appears on our website. I have no idea if there is any problem with it having Food & Bev as the item type, but we are a retail store, not a restaurant. We are using Square for Retail (paid version). Is anyone else having this problem??
