Hey all, we're looking to go paperless for card tx. Right now we use paper cc receipts (merchant copy) to track tips so bartenders can cash themselves out at end-of-shift. We're considering adding a Square Terminal at each location for on-screen signatures (we can't take sigs on POS because they're fixed on the back bar). Is there a clean / low-effort method to get a report or have a tip summary available for bartenders to access directly? Or is the best method for us to keep piling up paper receipts so they can manually total their cc tips?
If the latter, can Terminal be configured to spit out a merchant copy only, or alternately, can it send that merchant copy to one of the POS printers already deployed on the back bar?
A bit more info on our setup. We use employee PINs for time tracking but not for drawer assignment (we use a generic user for recording sales at each station), and we don't require a PIN to start new transactions, because we designed our setup for speed. Also, sometimes two bartenders work from the same POS and cash drawer. We don't have a manager onsite at closing time, so bartenders have to have access to cc tip amounts to calculate their tip-outs. That's the only reason we're still using paper cc receipts. Is there a better way?
Hi @justsportsmans.. It should be as simple as this. First, be sure that your permissions are set up to allow them to view sales reports from the POS. Then, they can run a POS sales report (More > Reports > Sales) after the shift is completed. This report allows a device filter if needed, and a team filter (in case the generic user, if you also have servers you want to exclude from the report. There is a tips collected line in the sales summary details section. Let me know if you have any issues finding this and if you need more help, it would be good to know which POS you are using (standard or Restaurants?)
Thank you for the response! We're running Restaurants (legacy/free) with Teams Plus (also legacy) and Payroll. I'm aware of the reports feature and I can get totals with that just fine, but I'm looking for something a little less hands-on if that makes sense. I don't want the bartenders to have to set up the report parameters each time they tip themselves out because if they don't get every parameter set correctly, they could easily pull tip totals from the wrong date/shift/etc. What would be great is having the ability to modify the "current drawer" on-screen report to include non-cash tips, or some equivalent that bartenders can pull up quickly without having to set up the report parameters.
I understand there are features that would probably give me what I want if I upgraded to one of the newer plans, but I like where we're at right now with our POS environment. If we simply can't get what we want from a paperless setup, we'll just have to keep printing receipts for now. 😭
@justsportsmans Sorry for the delay. I needed to look at my Restaurants POS in the shop to be sure I wasn't telling you a lie. Have you looked at the POS Shift report? It defaults to the current day for the team member running the report and shows all tips. So, as long as the Generic team member is logged in, no matter the device, it should show everything your bartenders need. The report is found at More > Shift Report.

I don't have the "More > Shift Report" option available to me. It's not in the "More > Reports" section or anywhere else either.
