Feature Request: Re-open or edit a closed check

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Square Point of Sale: Is there a way to reopen a closed check?

 

We use Square Register and Square POS on an iPad for our sometimes full service/sometimes counter service cafe. We often find ourselves having to refund a credit card transaction (due to either employee error or guest error) but still in need to remedy the payment. Often we run this as an open dollar amount via the keypad but this doesn't accurately track our inventory on the now refunded check. Reopening a closed check would be incredibly helpful and I thought once saw on the forum somewhere that there was a way to do it but we simply can not find it! Would love guidance/insight/assistance. Thanks!

There are TWO features we miss the most as a fine dining restaurant. The first is "Auto Grat" ... and the new Square for Restaurants upgrade (finally!) offers that.  But what I don't see an answer for, is whether this upgrade will also offer the ability to "re-open" or add amounts to a ticket AFTER the payment card has been swiped.  (currenrly, other than adding a tip, it is impossible to re-open a ticket once the card has been swiped.  For comparison, TOAST offers this feature, as do most restaurant systems.

 

This - in my opinion - is really the last key feature MISSING from Square ... but it is important enough to be a differentiator.

 

Can anyone weigh-in on this?

Right now this is a feature request the Square for Restaurants Team is exploring. It's been a popular feature request since Square for Restaurants was launched. Since you're the first person on the Seller Community to ask about it, I've gone ahead and moved your thread to the feature request board. From here we will track feedback and use cases from other sellers looking for this feature. 🙂

Hello @JKinSB! I'm happy to clarify: if you're using Open Tickets with Square Register and Square Point of Sale to manage checks then you cannot reopn the ticket. You should be able to process an itemized refund and adjust your inventory at the same time. Or is it that itemized refunds take too much time? We'd appreciate your feedback!  

 

I think you might have read about check management with the Square for Restaurants, which is a different app that is curently only supported with iPads. With Square for Restaurants a check can be reopened for 60 minutes after it has been closed (but you'd need to have your customer's card to hand to charge the card again if needed.)
