Printing SKU labels by Vendor

Printing SKU labels by Vendor

I've spent the last few months building my inventory in Square for Retail and now I'm ready to print SKU labels. I have close to 1000 greeting cards so bulk printing by Category doesn't make sense (also, a few cards are already bar-coded and priced).

What's the easiest way to print? It seems crazy that we can't sort by Vendor - please tell me I'm missing something.

When selecting items to print labels for - I find the process painful having to go back into the list and pick for every single item I want to print labels for.

Can this not have check marks beside the list of items that you can quickly check off all at once then move forward to printing them all?

Now, the screen gets cut off and not only do you have to click each one separately, you need to adjust your screen to actually see the items.

As a single business owner and wearing too many hats now - anything that can be streamlined to make jobs smoother and quicker just makes sense.

Hoping you will consider this.

Thank you

Shirley

Hey @bramble79!

There are only two ways to print barcode labels with Square for Retail. One is how you're doing it now, just from the Dashboard by category. The other would be via purchase orders.

Feel free to give us a call to speak with a Square for Retail specialist, as sometimes they have alternative suggestions.

I understand that there are only two ways, it really isn't user friendly. I don't use the purchase order function, I'm not even sure it would be useful to me. If I can already run reports of what's sold I can't imagine what I'd need a purchase orders for...maybe/hopefully I'm missing something.

Unfortunately I don’t print barcode labels so don’t know any short cuts for printing. But I do have a bunch of sku’s to keep track of. The PO function helps inventory by letting you order from vendors then once you receive the items you can enter any tax’s & fees then receive the items with one click to enter into inventory. Since it breaks out the taxes and fees it gives you a true cost of goods sold. One thing you might try is just not worry about printing the barcodes from square and just setup label files to print to say a brother label printer

Thanks for your question, I'll tell you my approach to printing barcodes and maybe you'll be able to borrow something from my technique.

First the Square dashboard I use doesn't allow me to print barcodes so I do them all manually. What I do is assign (or make up) a sku number for each inventory item. I then use that number in either a barcode creating website, or now I use InDesign from Adobe which allows me to use a font to create the barcode. I then add the barcode artwork into a label layout (you could use any software where you create labels). I can copy and paste as many of the same label I need, print them out, and attach them to my inventory. Then when I add the item into square, I scan the printed barcode (or manually type) the sku number. Hope this helps you.

Hi @Shirley4 I've merged your post to an existing thread that has a similar request as you (though not completely exact). We have some of our lovely Super Sellers providing their current workarounds, but I feel free to share your thoughts here as well. We just want to keep all the feedback in one place. 🙂

Have a nice day!

Ugh. This is frustrating. I guess instead of having actual categories for my merchandise I'll need to have two vendor categories. Ridiculous.
