look up e-gift certificate by phone number

Hi, we have had two customers this week wanting to use e-gift certificates by giving us their phone number. They said that when they bought the gift cert they were given the option to tie their phone number to it for use at our food trailer. However, we have no idea how to look them up this way and we eventually had to use the 16 digit code. Any idea how to do this? Thanks!

Their eGift Cards are saved to their customer profile. From Checkout, after you select Charge, tap Card on File for the payment type and search their for phone number. Tap their profile to view their egift card.

Thanks, but I don't have that option on my screen.

@abrokenangel Then you'll need to enable Card on file  in Settings > Payment Types

Ah, thank you. That works. However, it's a bummer that the two features are attached. I normally leave card on file turned off as it's my understanding that we pay a much higher rate for transactions if a customer saves their card for use in this manner. I realize that it would not matter for the gift certificate usage, but I would hate to leave it on all the time just for the certificate redemption.

Ah, I see why you'd need card on file disabled. Hopefully in the future we'll be able to separate the two.  @abrokenangel

Is there a way to disable the phone number option all together?
We tried to pull one up but it was still under the name of the person who purchased the gift card. What if the person who purchased the gift card bought multiple gift cards and we used the wrong one? This has now put the responsibility of us hunting down the gift card on us and not on them.... It's not easier.
