I only use Square to facilitate charge card purchases of craft show one-of-a-kind items, so I do not need most of Square's point of sale capability. I recently upgraded my old cell phone to an iPhone X. I also have an iPad mini 2 available. What is the simplest solution for me to continue using Square?

In terms of basic functionality, both the iPhone X and the iPad Mini will operate almost identically to one another when using the Square Point of Sale app. The only noticeable difference would be that the size of text and numbers tend to appear larger on iPad devices due to the App orienting itself to a larger tablet display.
The only other major difference comes from connectivity options. In the event that there is no strong WiFi connection, the iPhone would have the option to opt into to using Cellular Data service to process payments. While some iPad's can also use Cellular Data, the majority of iPad devices don't have cellular capabilities. If you are unsure whether your iPad Mini is cellular-compatible, here is a helpful guide to help you determine.
In all reality, both are great options to continue using with Square! Personal preference will come into play here, I'm sure.
