authorizing card keeps going for now ove an hour. How do I stop it and start over with the sale?

the authorizing of the card has been running for an hour and I can't get it to stop.  If I turn it off and turn it back on it's still hung on authorizing.  Help!

Hi @elanakay. That is really strange that the authorizing message won't go away. I would go ahead and give these troubleshooting steps a try for your Square POS app.

 

Let me know if they get you back up and running!

I had a similar issue a day ago. While the Authorizing status kept running, the customer received an indication from their bank that the transaction had taken the sales amount from their account. I therefore gave them their items as it appeared that they had paid Square. However, I had to cancel the transaction in Square and from my point of view, it failed and I will not get paid. Square appears to provide no mechanism to address this sort of situation. So I am out about $80. This has happened only once in 8 years, and that's something I suppose. Still, this is frustrating.

Sorry to hear this happened. In this case, it seems like the customer saw a pending charge on their end as Square tried to process the amount with their bank. However, this does not mean that the transaction went through successfully since the bank can drop the charge at any time. 

 

I understand that interruptions like these can be disappointing and frustrating. Some of the general measures you can take are making sure the Square app is up to date at all times in addition to checking if the transaction went through successfully on your end before the customer leaves.
