What is the difference between receipt vs authorization numbers?

Why are there two different sorts of numbers on the receipt (receipt and auth number) and which is better to use to record the transaction in the accounting software?

Thanks for posting in our Seller Community.

Not too sure what you mean by auth number. @marieketchum When you get some time, can you please send me a  screenshot of the receipt as I was unable to find this feature in the receipt settings.

See the two number sets on the bottom left of the receipt.

Thank you for sending this over @marieketchum. It was very helpful to see the receipt. This number is auto generated within the system when a credit/debit card is processed. It is normally used for the card-issuing company (AMEX, VISA, Discover) as a type of ID in case there are ever any pending balances that need to be addressed. I would suggest using the receipt number for accounting purposes.

Hope this was helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions.
