Two locations, different tax, no library

How do I set up two squares that work independently but are linked to the same account?  Right now, if I change the tax on one it changes it on the other (which I don't want).

Do you have to pay the subscription fee for all three?

Hi @schlackj - Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Square Seller Community👋😊

Not sure which one you are looking at exactly but each of our subscription services will have its own rate - most do have a fee per location.

For example: Here is the billing structure with Square for Retail Plus. For each location accessing Square for Retail Plus’s advanced inventory system, there is a $60 subscription fee — charged on the first of the month.

1 Location $60 x 1 = $60

2 Locations $60 x 2 = $120

3 Locations $60 x 3 = $180

I hope this information is helpful but please do let us know if you have any additional questions. Always happy to help! 😊

I am authorizing two different people to have access to my square account in two separate locations/cities on the same day(s). Each location has a different sales tax. I know how to set up different sales tax for different cities, and I know how to set up multiple devices. However, I cannot figure out how, or if I can set one device to be defaulted to one sales tax, and the other device to default to a different tax.

It seems as though if I set one device to a certain tax, the other device automatically is updated to the same tax. Please help!

@BeesReads I've moved your post to this thread so you can see @RHatch's suggestion here - creating multiple locations would definitely the best way to accomplish the set up you've described! A lot of our Sellers name each Location using the city name to keep things organized.

I also wanted to point you to this thread, as @Chad had a great explanation of how to make your items available at both Locations without having to export/import your item library.

Thanks Valentina!

Is this option available under location only if you have a retail Square register? I only use hand held devices for transactions and have explored locations, as I figured that might be the answer in the past but do not see that option in this case.

You don't need to have a Square Register to have multiple locations! To create and manage Locations, you'll want to visit your Square Dashboard - you will not be able to create a location from the Square Point of Sale app. For the steps you'll need to follow in order to create locations, check out this portion of the article I linked above @BeesReads.
