Table Side Terminal usage - can I prevent a customer from accessing anything beyond their tab

I am considering using Square Terminal to allow my wine bar customers to pay their tab at the table.  I want to make sure that if I leave the Terminal on the table with their tab open that they cannot navigate to anything else once they have completed the transaction.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible?

Hello @jamesdivine

This is an intriguing idea! I've never thought about using a terminal as an open tab per table! I'd be a little wary of the random drop or spill doing damage or the terminal making its way out the front door myself, but what you're proposing *should* be able to be done:

You can set up passcodes on the terminal. Settings -> Security -> Enable Passcodes

From there, make sure Require Employee Passcode is set to "After Each Sale" AND "When Backing out of a Sale" That way once the customer pays for their tab it'll take the terminal to a passcode so they can't see any other data.

I'd recommend setting up a specific team member "Tableside" that has zero access to anything but the point of sale so that your tech-savvy customers don't get in there and break things.

Since the Square interface isn't designed to be customer-facing, you may still run into issues with people getting into things they're not supposed to.

One other option that may be better for you is to look into the self-serve ordering QR codes  available through the Online Store environment. The customer has to pay at time of order (no tabs yet), but it eliminates the risk of someone damaging a terminal.
