Services and tipping

I own a business that is 50% professional services and 50% retail. Most of the time, people purchase products alongside their services however, I am wondering if there is any way to single out the service for calculating tip so they aren’t tipping on their service and the products? Also, is there anyway to have the square POS not ask people for a tip if they are only purchasing retail items with no services attached? How would I set up to retail plus most efficiently to accommodate my business.

Hi @erstone12. At this time, tipping in Square is an all-or-nothing setting. If you turn it on, then it will show the tip screen for all transactions, and for the total of the transaction (though you CAN exclude sales taxes from the suggested tip calculation if you want).

This does seem like a great idea for a feature request, so I’d recommend that you head over to this page and suggest it in the Square for Retail requests. When you do, it would be a great idea to point out that it should apply to ALL POS apps, not just Retail.
