Payroll: Depositing paycheck to Cash App with Square Balance

When I run payroll on Tuesday, it states: "Cash App payments are received instantly, direct deposits on Wednesday". This makes me think Cash App payments should go to the employee instantly, ie, Tuesday.

I set up Cash App payments in the Direct Deposit section by entering the banking info found in the employee's Cash App. Our employees get paid on Wednesdays. I was under the impression that if we paid them via Cash App with Square Balance they would get the payment instantly, ie, on Tuesday. Am I doing something wrong?

Hello @goldenlinecoffe !

I have Cash App set up for my own paycheck with my store. With it, I get a CashApp alert 3-10 minutes after I submit payroll.

I'd have the employee check their direct deposit settings on the Team app first: us entering the Cash App routing and account numbers manually may be slowing things down. If I remember correctly, the employee enters their Cash App Tag instead of the routing/account info.

The other thing to watch for: as you go through all the payroll screens, Square has a tendency to change the "Now" setting to Next Pay date, which won't allow for instant transfers. Before the final submission screen, make sure Now is still set for the pay distribution.

Hope this helps!

Ryan, thanks, I will try that! When we set it up we were following the instructions from a google search:

https://cash.app/help/us/en-us/311011-enable-direct-deposit

Didn't see anything about the Team App, but maybe that will solve it!

I've noticed the tendency to change "Now" setting too!

@goldenlinecoffe  Yeah that link is for when the user wants to use Cash App for direct deposits outside the Square ecosystem.

I definitely recommend having your team members download the Team app. When you bring new employees on all you have to do on your side is enter their email: the Team app does all the W-2 and I-9 information so you don't have to. Also the schedule posts to the app so there shouldn't be any more "I didn't know I worked!" issues. Plus the Cash App integration of course.

Wow, wish I knew that, thanks again! Can employees download their paystubs in the Team app?

@goldenlinecoffe  Yes! They can pull any pay stub that Square has processed.
