KDS Routing and more
We have many free square accounts, but we just started the restaurant account with KDS, we built the menu and later changed the categories, it didn't affect the POS ordering screen, but it changed the way the are routed through the KDS. 1) why can't I change this from my dashboard, I work across the country from the restaurant? 2) why can't we set up different categories for menu access for servers and for the KDS then the ones we want for reporting?
Another question: How do servers back out of the payment screen if they don't want to take payment right there, without a manager? Is there a setting?
Last question, when exporting the CSV files I get a different item for every single voided item. It shows up like this: Burger (voided), Bud (voided) Can I turn this feature off somewher?

@Sflikkema I don't think I have all the answers, but I know on the KDS, when you set up the kds you tell it what categories to display. This is common to all square printers, so if you add/delete any categories it may or may not print until you toggle that category on or off. It should just take a minute or two on the kds to make those changes. If you are across the country, I recommend keeping a tablet with you to see what the changes are when you do things so you can fix them more intuitively. I manage several locations with different menus and always keep a work tablet so I can double check things.
I would look at your team permissions and the device settings. It will be something to do with exiting a sale. The normal business practice logic is to prevent a cashier from seeing the total, backing out, collecting cash on a lesser amount and pocketing the difference. I am pretty sure you can change that.
Which report are you trying to export? You can also go to custom reports and set up something that might work better for you if you just want something to see sales/comps/voids/etc.

@Donnie-M Thank you. So we set the KDS up with categories such as Salads, Pizza etc. Then we wanted to change the categories for reporting to just Food and Alcohol. This made it so we could no longer route the food to different stations bc it was all grouped under food. But it didn't change the menu set up on the order screen. I find this odd. So is there a way I could use separate categories for the KDS like it does for the menu? Or can I use the menu screen to route the KDS but keep the categories set up differently on the dashboard for reporting? Seems like a system flaw.
I am exporting every transaction, I would like to NOT see the voids.

I got you now, I think I understand. The categories on the register screen in square for restaurants are ways to organize and name your screens and buttons. The categories on the dashboard are hard coding for the items and they control routing to stations and are used for reporting etc. So for kds and routing you have to use the categories in the dashboard and the setup on the register screen is completely customizable.
