Item Setup for an Ice Cream Shop?

I’m new to square, own an ice cream shop and trying to set up, can you add an item and then have things under it, for example, cam I set up an item name scoops, select it and then have a breakdown of scoops under it, single, double, triple, pints?

You can definitely create an item called scoops and hierarchical variations based on size. Although, this might pose a challenge with tracking your inventory or your best selling flavors. 

Maybe our Super Seller @pessosices has a recommendation for item setup. He owns Pesso's Ices & Ice Cream shop in NYC. 🙂

You absolutely can have an Item called "Ice Cream" or "Scoops" and have Variations for each size!

However, we use separate items for each Size, rather than Variations.

Category: Ice Cream

Items: 1 Scoop, 2 Scoop, 3 Scoop, Pint

Here are some takeaways from my post for more information and the reasons behind how we do them: 

So we decided to have our Menu Categories align with our Product Categories (Ice Cream, Gelato, Italian Ice, Shakes, Sundaes, etc.), with each separate Item being based on each size. This sped up our line since our servers only had to tap a single button for each item rung up, rather than tapping through Modifiers or Variantions to get to the correct size. It also allowed us to more easily track Size Sales by the item, rather than by Variants or Modifiers.

We also made Cones and Toppings separate Items, and saved Modifiers for tracking less frequently sold items. We do use Modifiers for changes that don’t affect price (just in case an employee skips through the popup) but that are still nice to track, like which one of our Signature Sundaes was sold, or whether the Milkshake was made with Ice Cream or Gelato.
