Is there a trick to swiping?

I seem to only get 50% success when swiping a credit card and end up manually entering the charges. 

Is there some trick or especial technique to getting the square to actually read the card?

slow down and don't wiggle the card.  sometimes swipping horizontally instead of vertically helps.

@iloveudarlingim One tip that has worked for a few sellers is to place your finger behind the reader as to prevent the reader from moving when you swipe. 

Placing your device on a flat surface and swiping seems to help as well.
