Update: The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ are compatible with the Square chip card reader!

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is new and we have not fully tested it to include it on our device compatibility list. (If you already have a chip card reader, you are welcome to try it out).

I was able to enter the card manually abut it charges me more for the transaction. Is there anyway this can be reduced until the compatability issue is resolved?

Hey there @Lifestlyepens -
We do our best to test as many devices for compatibility with Square Point of Sale and our hardware. Often times a device is not compatible due to the device producer. I'm glad to hear that you are able to use the Point of Sale app by manually entering payment cards. As for why it isn't compatible - that may be a better question for Samsung.
I definitely recommend that all sellers use a device from our compatibility list if using the hardware (and lower fee) is important for your business. 👍

I purchased the samsung galaxy s8 about 3 weeks ago and the contactless reader about the same time and it worked fine. I used it at many events with no issues but today Dec. 16th I now get an error msg Device Not Compatible!!! What?! Hiw could something work for 3 weeks and now not work? And of course on a day I so needed this to work it didn't.

@Riverbooty It doesn't sound like many sellers have had any luck with this device since it's very new.
This can change however, so make sure both the operating system of your device and the Point of Sale app is fully updated and try connecting you Contactless and Chip Card Reader.

I went ahead with the purchase of my GS8 anyway (since they already support the rest of the Galaxy series) in the hopes of a compatibility update. I have an iPad mini that works with square so I can just tether that to my phone for now. I will definitely try to hook up a reader and will post back about it.

Something i learned from talking with the Reps! When you plug in the card reader and it ASKS to enable the microphone DO IT thats was the problem with my card not working and me having to input the credit cards and pay more in fees! FYI

Thanks for the tips. I tried them all my Samsung Galaxy s8+ is not a supported device. Is that being worked on? The device has been out over 6 months 🙂

Hi again @jaimeotto, I checked with a hardware specialist and actually this device has been added to our compatibility list!
Can you try closing any apps (especially any audio apps) before trying to connect the reader? If that doesn't do the trick please let me know here. I'll start a case for you with our Support team so we can resolve this for you once and for all!

I wrote this in a previous post. I purchased the samsung galaxy S8 and the contactless reader about 3 weeks ago and it paired fine. I used it at many shows with no issues and now today an error msg Device Not Supported. I could have cried! Of all days, me doing a big event it decided to not be supported?! Pls tell me what to do to fix the problem. I uninstalled it and paired it again but still does not work. Help!

Sorry to hear you ran into trouble with this, however the Samsung Galaxy S8 is listed as a fully compatible device, so you shouldn't have any trouble with it.
Were you able to try any troubleshooting? Usually, uninstalling and reinstalling the app as well as updating your device operating system fixes most issues.

My Samsung S8 plus also does not work!!!! This is very bad for my biz! I have to type in every transaction. Costing me more per transaction. Thankfully have a personal iPad I'll have to bring into work, but I would prefer to keep using my phone. How can this be fixed??? I was using it for the past 6 months and this last week it will not work. I uninstalled the app,reinstalled. Turned off any voice over anythings. Restarted phone. Everything is updated. Still searching for other trouble shooting ideas. Did anyone get more info? I even double checked that my headjack is working.(yes) I tried 6 different square readers from other colleagues. Is Square chip readers not compatible with the Samsung S8 plus?
