How to disable passcode in checkout?

[The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Return to cart from payment screen on POS without a passcode]

Once at the POS payment screen, a passcode MUST be entered to return to the cart. (I believe this feature randomly showed up a number of months ago.) I am the owner with full permissions & even I need to type it in. I can do that, but my employee can't do it without my passcode. Clearly, I don't want her to have my passcode. How do I turn this off?

I truly don't even understand why a passcode is necessary. It's just returning to the cart from the payment screen, where my employee can apply discounts, adjust prices, remove items, etc. It's not like she has limitations on those things.

So, how do I remove the passcode requirement for me & her?

You can disable passcodes by following the below steps

Note: Disabling passcodes will prevent team members from logging into the Point of Sale with a team passcode or personal passcode.

  1. Tap the following icon in the navigation bar:

    Three Horizontal Lines

or the down arrow at the top of the Square Register

  2. Tap Settings > Security > Passcodes.

  3. Toggle Allow Team Passcode off.

Hey @GLG!

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community!

To disable Passcodes from your Square app:

  1. Visit Settings in the navigation menu.
  2. Tap Passcodes > toggle Passcodes off.

If you ever don’t remember your passcode, it can be found in your profile from the Team tab of your online Square Dashboard.

If you'd like to keep the passcode requirement for certain areas of the app (for your employee accessibility), I would consider taking a look at your permission settings for Team Permissions. This will allow you to determine what you'd like a passcode to be required for, and what not to, like checkout.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions about this.

I have set permissions for my team in settings, but I don't want my team to have to type in a passcode. I'd like to eliminate that screen altogether. When I get to settings, there is no option to remove the team passcode. I can change it, but not remove it or turn it off. I'd like team members to just use the POS without having to get a full-screen passcode requirement. Is this possible?

What, specifically, would you like me to see on that page?

I see how to set up a passcode. I see how to change a passcode. But I do not see how to eliminate the passcode.

I assume @Goldneye wants you to see the section titled -

Disable Team Passcodes in your Point of Sale App

Were you able to scroll down in that article? @TATGOD

Disabling the team passcode that way still requires a passcode from each individual in order to get to the point of sale. Is there a way to not require a passcode at all to get to the point of sale?

Hey  - do you know why my post was deleted to this thread?  asked if I ever got an answer to my question, and I told them that I did not.

Anyway, to respond to you here: I already have this setting turned off. But My staff and I still need to enter a passcode to get to the pos once the app is launched. I would like to eliminate that passcode. I don't want any passcode to be required in order to sell an item to a customer.

I've been looking for a solution to this, but it seems like the answer is that...there is no way to do it. In order to sell an item to a customer with square pos, I must enter a passcode at some point. I launch the app, and a passcode must be entered. But this is not possible with Square.

I see another post of yours in this thread below the post I'm responding to here, @TATGOD.

Is that the one you are referring to?

When you refer to a 'passcode to get to the pos once the app is launched' you are not referring to your email and password combo when logging into the app, right?

Correct. We're logged into the app. Someone clocks in, and we have to enter a passcode to get to the checkout screen. Or the app was closed, and when it opens, we have to enter a passcode to get to the checkout screen. There is no way eliminate the need to put in some kind of passcode in order to get to the checkout screen.

Hm, if you've already followed the steps in the Best Answer, this might be something else.

Do you use Square for Restaurants, and if so - did you ever set up Device Codes @TATGOD?

You can deactivate your device code from the Devices page of your Square Dashboard. To do so:

  1. Click the device to reset or deactivate.

  2. Click Reset Device Login or Deactivate and confirm your request.

  3. If you reset, you’ll be given a new device code.

If that doesn't solve your problem, please get in touch with our team by giving us a call so we can dig in!

That answer does not support our terminals using restaurant POS - please can you advise?

@thelinny Sorry, I missed the mark.

You will have to edit your permission setting from your Square dashboard for your employees to be able to cancel a transaction. Once this has been updated, they will not need the owners permission/passcode.

      To edit a permission set:

Sign in to Staff > Team section of your online Square Dashboard > Permissions.
Select an existing permission set and make edits.
Click Save. Any changes made apply to all team members assigned to the permission set.

      I hope that helps!

      Hi @RobynR

I have checked my settings as advised - I have granted all team members full access & the problem is still present? [This is also the same on the owner team member]

      Please can you advise?

@thelinny I would recommend checking that all permission sets being used on employees allows them to "Cancel Transactions." If your employee is set on the permission that has "Cancel Transactions" unchecked, they will need to have a supervisor's passcode to move forward.  You can check your permissions setting and see how many team members are linked to that permission here.

If you're still having trouble, I recommend contacting our Support team for further assistance. They will be able to walk you through your permissions settings in real time.

When you have a moment, please reach out directly by logging into your Square account and heading here or calling directly at 0800 - 098 8008 Mon-Fri, 9 am-5 pm British time.

Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else.
