How do I sell tickets for a theater online?

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Please help. New to Square, trying to sell theater tickets, do not know how to do it.

I posted over in the Developer board but no one has responded and I really need to figure this out.

I need someone who has experience using Square to sell tickets for theater or a similar event. I run the website for a small children's theater and we are migrating from PayPal to Square. I have looked at the API documentation, and I have been on the Slack channel and I have looked at Stack Overflow, and I have no idea how to do this.

We cannot use a 3rd party like SimpleTix, because we simply can't afford the extra $.99 fee per ticket. If anyone has experience doing this and can help me, I would really appreciate it. I am just clueless and running out of ideas.

Insteading of bainging your head against the API, I would recommend looking at Square's built in Online Store option. You can set up electronic items there where the theatregoer prints out their receipt which could act as their ticket.

Check out the Online Store help file. There is no additional charge to use the online store, you'll just pay a little more of a "swipe rate" for the online payments--still way less than that 99¢ though.

Best of luck! Tell your cast to break a leg for me! 🙂

We already have a website. We don't need another online presence. And even a small additional fee will probably be frowned upon by the administration.

there wouldn't be an additional fee from Square for selling your tickets online just their normal rate which is what you would be paying while using the API.

so I definitely think using the built-in ticket event sales part of the free Square online store is the best bet.  you would just link from your website to this site when someone clicks to buy a ticket then Square handles the rest.  you set up the price and number of tickets available.

Hi Tailspinner!

I am contemplating a small theater of my own as well, and I just recently posted a Feature Request specifically for theater situations.  I do hope you read it and comment, as well as share it with other theater-minded people to help get some traction on this particular feature.

I wish you well with your theater - especially during this time!
